Full-Time Research Assistant
The primary role of this position is to provide support to the sales staff at an independently owned art and antiques gallery with scholarly research for a variety of 16th – 19th century prints, maps, rare books, paintings, and antiques. The Research Assistant’s main responsibility is to create gallery catalogs and offerings with detailed descriptions of artwork using the gallery’s extensive in-house reference book library, existing offerings database, trusted academic online resources, and institutional art reference libraries. Accurate, scholarly writing skills are necessary as well as good skills with digital photography and computer editing programs. Additional responsibilities include cataloging and maintaining listings of artwork through online sales websites.
Ideal candidate should be a professional, enthusiastic individual and be flexible to handle daily administrative tasks and occasional client interactions. A background in Art History is preferred.
